About the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination
Our CPA exam review course will help you with the oldest of the professional accounting examinations offered here; the CPA examination has been around for over 110 years and is the most recognizable accounting certification. It explores the public accounting aspect of the profession where some accountants either begin or spend time in their careers in either large international or smaller firms.
In 2011, the CPA examination is trending more toward candidates wishing to spend their careers working in non-public accounting publicly traded and private companies. It still continues to also test government and non-profit accounting. Financial Accounting and Reporting will also have International Financial Reporting Standards tested. Auditing and Attestation will contain test questions regarding International Auditing Standards.
The CPA examination consists of four parts that are discussed below:
The Auditing and Attestation portion of the examination is four hours long, consists of 90 multiple choice questions in three 30 question mini-test (60% of your score) and one mini-test with seven simulation type tests (40% of your score) that covers the following topics:
Planning audit engagements and contracts, Internal Control, Gathering Audit Evidence, Reviewing audit engagements and preparing communications before, during and after audit activities. Government auditing is also covered. International Ethics Standards Boards for Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Analysis of International Auditing Standards topics are also included.
Business Environment and Concepts is a portion lasting for three hours that includes 72 multiple choice questions in three 24 question mini-tests (85% of your score and three written essays; (15% of your score) two will count to your score, one will not but it will not be disclosed as to which of the essay questions will not count toward your score. The topics to be covered are:
Business Structures such as Corporate Governance, Global Strategies, Corporations and Partnerships, Economics, Financial Management, Information Technology Functions and Responsibilities, Planning and Budgeting, including Capital Budgeting. In addition, the subjects of Process and Project Management have been added.
The Financial Accounting and Reporting section of the CPA examination is four hours long and consists of 90 multiple choice questions questions in three 30 question mini-tests (60% of your score) and one mini-test (40% of your score) with seven simulation type tests that entail the following topics:
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Concepts, using the FASB codification, International Financial Report Standards, Financial Statement Preparation, All of the elements on the Financial Statements: Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Revenue, Expenses and Footnote Disclosures, Business Combinations and Foreign Currency Accounting, Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting.
The Regulation Section is three hours long and contains 72 multiple choice questions in three 24 question mini-tests (60% of your score) and one mini-test containing six simulation questions (40% of your score) on the following topics:
Professional Ethics and Conduct Business Law topics including the Uniform Commercial Code, Contracts, Agency, Bankruptcies and Securities Acts and Federal Law applying to Employer-Employee Relationships, Federal Corporate and Individual Taxation.
